Our Houston, Texas-based client is the global leader in customized aviation trip management services.
General Summary:
The Controller will provide the strategic leadership and day-to-day management of the Company’s accounting organization, including developing the financial reporting infrastructure and implementing internal controls that may be needed in the event that the Company goes public.
This individual will be a proactive advocate of streamlining accounting processes, and delivering timely and usable financial information to appropriate internal and external constituencies, as well as working with Operations on the implementation of control processes that are also responsive to the business.
Direct reports include Manager of Financial Reporting, Manager of Accounting, Billing and Accounts Payable, and Regional Financial Managers of our International Regions report to this position. Total staff is approximately 95.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Accounting

Lead the year-end audit and liaise effectively with the independent auditors to ensure an efficient and effective audit.

Ensure compliance with regulatory and statutory requirements related to accounting practices both domestically and internationally.

Provide thought leadership on the evaluation of new accounting and reporting standards to the Company and advise on the likely impact on the Company’s results.

Oversee the general ledger and all related accounts with proper documentation; review entries to the general and subsidiary ledgers to assure accuracy and compliance with company and established accounting principles.

Ensure the maintenance of appropriate financial records.

Oversee the supervision of regional controllers in international operations.
-
Stay current with developments, practice trends, and promulgations in the accounting profession; monitor accounting systems and recommend new or revised policies and procedures.

Responsible for preparation of various financial and accounting reports.

Maintain monthly accounting close calendars and coordinate with all locations. Oversee and review all Corporate consolidation entries and reports.

Ensure local statutory compliance in all international locations.

Provide technical accounting advice to the accounting group.
-
Maintain equity-related compensation accounting including the development of valuation methodology in accordance with FASB 123R.
Financial Reporting
-
Responsible for the consolidation of all business unit operations.

Responsible for all financial statements (income statement, balance sheet, statement of cash flows).

Maintain knowledge of all GAAP and SEC reporting requirements which impact the company, including new pronouncements.

Coordinate annual audits with the Company’s external auditors.

Control
-
Responsible for ensuring an adequate internal control environment exists in all critical areas and operations.

Develop and implement internal accounting policies, procedures and controls necessary to ensure that the company will be compliant best practices.

Ensure positions are appropriately staffed with experienced and credentialed individuals.

Other
-
Prepare relevant Board of Directors meeting materials.
-
Prepare analysis and presentation materials as needed for the CFO and Board of Directors.

Developing a strong financial organization with sufficient bench to meet the continuing needs of a growing organization.

General Management Oversight
-
Flexibility in managing his/her schedule, as well as the team, is a must.

Experience managing rapid growth and increasing demands for information and analyses.

Supports a high level of productivity, organization, teamwork, and employee satisfaction among the accounting team.

Leads and motivates a team of eight direct reports and approximately 95 accounting employees in total.

Achieves effective communication, coordination of effort, information flow, and learning within the accounting team.

Responsible for assessing departmental staffing needs and developing staff as required, including succession planning.
Risk Management
-
Develop a cash repatriation program to minimize the cost.
Cash Management
-
Accurately and efficiently post cash receipts to AR module

Support Treasury with forecast and cash management across the globe
Investments
-
Maintain the short term investment program
-
Serve on the Benefits committee ensuring the company is in compliance with all fiduciary responsibilities to the Company’s defined contribution plans.

Perform investment performance reviews of funds within the defined contribution plans.
Knowledge and Skill Requirements
The Corporate Controller must demonstrate a willingness to deal “hands-on” with issues ranging from administrative to complex. This individual must have a proactive style and a strategic sense that will ensure credibility with the management team. The successful candidate will be adept in the management of change, with the ability to diagnose problems, build relationships internally and externally, articulate a vision, set a leadership agenda, and implement solutions. This individual must understand the value of and be able to function effectively in an environment where teamwork is essential.

Excellent communication skills and the ability to sell/educate internal constituents are also essential.
Management/Technical Experience
-
Must have 10-15 years of progressive accounting experience, including a top tier public accounting firm as well as management level experience in a computerized multi-unit accounting environment.

Must have strong knowledge of US GAAP requirements, as well as regional accounting practices and statutes. Familiarity with SEC requirements would also be helpful.

Demonstrated capability in collaborating with other functions and achieving results through influence.

Experience building and leading a team of professionals.

Proficient in Microsoft Office.

Experience as a senior accounting professional ideally with a mix of corporate and public accounting roles.

Significant Sarbanes Oxley compliance experience would be helpful.
-
General Aviation industry and international accounting experience would be ideal but is not required.

Experience in interfacing with the Board of Directors would be ideal but is not required.
