We are actively interviewing candidates for a Director of Business Development-Events.

Our client provides specialized data/information products and member-only services which ranks among the leading providers of news, data and analysis for the global energy industry. They have produced some of the most highly attended and broadly acclaimed industry conferences and exhibitions.

The Director of Business Development will work with the conference team reporting to the Chief Revenue Officer. Duties and responsibilities include:

As a Director of Business Development - Events you will be responsible for the financial success of our events. You will be responsible for selling the events by contacting former customers and cold calling potential new prospects, to acquire sponsorships, sell exhibit space and help build attendance. Your responsibility will be to foster and maintain relationships with key industry accounts, to rebook for future shows, increase show attendance, exhibit sales and sponsorships by communicating the value of the events. Most of our contact is via phone in our office, however travel by yourself will be required at times.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Increase revenues for assigned shows through exhibit, sponsorship and attendee package sales

  • Maintain high industry awareness; trends, customer relationships, distribution and competitive issues

  • Rebooking exhibitors on the show floor

  • Research for new exhibitors and event sponsors

  • Identify, develop and manage database of prospects

  • Forecast and project revenue

  • Complete other duties or projects assigned necessary to increase profits of the events

Qualifications: 

  • Ability to travel to events including weekends, either driving or flying depending on distance

  • Aggressive, highly motivated and organized

  • 5+ years in sales -  preferably for energy, oil and gas or energy transition events

  • Excellent organizational and planning skill; be able to anticipate needs and problems ahead of time

  • Internet knowledge

  • Ability to work on multiple projects and events in a fast-paced environment

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

  • Communication skills: able to communicate effectively with management and with clients

  • Ability to translate client needs into well written business and event proposals
